The background to Revival FM - Scotland's first full time community Christian radio station.
In the Beginning
The story of Revival FM goes back to 1995 when a group of Christians in the Kilsyth area of west Central Scotland met to discuss the possibility of broadcasting Christian radio programmes under the UK Government's new Restricted Service Licensing scheme. This permitted a low power local radio service to air for a maximum period of 28 days. Two such licenses per year could be granted with a gap of at least 4 months between broadcasts. The group decided to form Revival Radio Limited, a not for profit company through which application to the authorities could be made.
The first transmission took place at Easter 1996 from a base near Kilsyth and its success convinced the directors to organise further broadcasts. From 1996 to 2005, a total of 14 RSL broadcasts were transmitted. Christians with radio experience, and those with none, caught the vision over the years and many are still helping Revival FM today.
The Full-time Breakthrough
In 2005, the Government introduced a third tier of radio broadcasting called Community Radio. This was intended to allow local non-commercial groups to broadcast a radio service in their community with a 5 year licence for a full or part time service. With its previous experience and its charitable status, Revival Radio Ltd. was well placed to make an application for a Community Licence. This was successful and approval was given in July 2005 to the board of Revival Radio Ltd. to launch a full time service for a 5 year period.
Reaching a Whole New Level
Although Revival Radio had enjoyed the use of several facilities for its RSL broadcasts, a permanent installation was needed to sustain full time broadcasting for 24 hours each day.
After much prayer and discussion, the board agreed to try to obtain a studio facility in a location which would permit the necessary coverage of the local community.
A 2,200 sq. ft. industrial property was found in Cumbernauld and converted into a purpose built, state of the art radio production suite at a cost of over £100,000. The funding was provided by gifts, loans and donations from individuals and organisations so that the new service, Revival FM, could begin broadcasting in 2006.
Where Hearing is Believing
Revival FM launched on 3rd September 2006, broadcasting from Cumbernauld and operating on a Community Radio Licence issued by Ofcom, the United Kingdom regulator. Revival FM is family friendly radio, with a positive message focused on both the people who form the community and the environment which surrounds our communities as well as the wider world through the internet. Revival FM brings listeners a wide range of Christian music and relevant speech based programmes, together with local and international news.
In March 2011, the station was delighted to announce the granting of an extension of its licence from Ofcom, effectively authorising an uninterrupted continuation of broadcasts from September 2011 for a further 5 years, until 2016.
The Main Mission of Revival FM

We believe in...
- The one true God who lives eternally in three persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
- The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
- The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God—fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.
- The dignity of all people, made male and female in God's image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.
- The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ—born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
- The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.
- The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
- The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
- The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.
- The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers—given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit's gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.
- The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.
